I come from a pretty different back round to most of you and i am not from Nz(or Ireland…haha).
Unlike most of you i dont know who the local bmx heros were 5 or more years ago, but i thought i would give you some insight to the place where i came from and the group of guys that inspired me to ride!
These three guys(and others) are the god fathers of bmx in my world and to this day i still look up to them!
In my opinion these guys are probably some of the most under rated and skilled riders i have ever come across and even though they come from one of the most dangerous areas in the world they managed to find the inspiration and strength to keep riding!
Hopefully you can find some inspiration from this article too!
In New Zealand we have a serious lack of big comps! We are lucky to maybe get 6 good ones a year, but some people are working really hard behind the scenes to try and bring more world class comps and jams to New Zealand!
Jed(and Others) have been working on a Dirt Series for Nz and here are some details.
This is obviously not all of the details and you can expect to be hearing more about this!!!
Word from Jed:”So winters nearly over and the NZ season is on the verg of kicking off!! NZSDS (New Zealand Summer Dirt Series) Its a 5 stop series we have created to bring the BMX Dirt community alive!!! I’ll have more for you about all the events we have coming up in the next week! Have fun boys and girls go shred!”
News On Summer Hill Trails From Jed
27/08/2010
hay hay hay Jed here,
The past few weeks have been sweet, its been raining a lot so I’ve only had a couple rides but pretty good ones at that. Making it worth it, while we can. I came back from America went up to the local jumps here in Mount Maunganui and the boys had gone to town on them! The whole small line got turned into a mini big line! All the landings got steepened up, gaps got bigger and the lips got steepened too.
The smaller line is set ready to go with 8 jumps running wicked, we just need fine weather to ride them now.. We changed the big line around a bit instead of the big 90degree burm we put a step down – hip – burm. Its pretty wild that’s after the 18ft and leads into a 22ft then 26ft all down hill. All the landings are between 7ft and 10ft tall!!
Here’s a link to my mate Carls blog.. Summer Hill Trails (SHT) the boys have been going hard on and a few other cool pics in there, so enjoy =) http://justnotinside.blogspot.com/

Ok, we are starting some called “Questions” on the site.
“Questions” will start today with questions from all of YOU for Dean Hearne(the guy who runs UNITED BIKE CO). Send me a question for Dean and make it good! ha ha!
I will run the answers on the site and we should feature this one in the next two weeks or so so keep checking back!
send your 1 question to sales@bmx.co.nz, we will collect them and send them to Dean to answer!
In the future we will try have more regular interviews and questions for other peeps(or pros) in the industry!

The guy in these pics Malcolm Peters is a mate of mine from Sa and he just kills it, plain and simple!
He is riding for a new local company(in Sa) called Salvo Bmx and it looks like he did this photo shoot for his new signature frame!
